SDG 7: AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

Energy is one of the fundamental areas that brings together the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of sustainable development. While ensuring access to reliable and modern energy services is essential for sustaining economic activities and improving quality of life, reducing the environmental impacts of energy production and consumption is also a key component of the sustainability agenda. Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addresses these requirements through a holistic approach and aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. In line with the targets of SDG 7, transforming energy systems towards greater sustainability is closely associated with increasing the use of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening energy infrastructure. This transformation also contributes to the more efficient use of energy resources, the reduction of environmental pressures, and the promotion of sustainable production and consumption patterns.

IGU’s activities within the scope of SDG 7 encompass complementary areas including energy efficiency, renewable energy, reduction of environmental impacts, raising awareness of energy-related issues, and supporting sustainable energy solutions. These activities not only contribute to improving the University's own energy-use practices but also help raise awareness of sustainable energy among students, academic and administrative staff, and other stakeholders. Accordingly, SDG 7 is addressed at IGU not merely as a technical objective related to energy use, but as a broader sustainability area interconnected with environmental responsibility, the efficient use of economic resources, knowledge generation, and social awareness. The University's academic and institutional activities in the field of energy enable the ecological, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability to be considered together and facilitate the establishment of a comprehensive sustainability model within the institution.
